Here at Mt Gravatt State School, we are proudly catering for the needs of students with Vision Impairment.
Our school has a Special Education Program that specifically provides specialist support for any student with a diagnosed Vision Impairment.
We currently have 3 qualified teachers, professionally qualified to specialise in Vision Impairment. Their role is to support both students and class teachers in addressing specific requirements within the class room and beyond. Most of the students are included in their regular class and access the regular curriculum through modification. We also have 6 fantastic teacher aides who work alongside students and teachers.
Support requirements may include modifying class work into Braille or a suitable format for low vision students, ensuring students' working and learning environment is optimal, according to their vision loss assistance is also given with specially adapted programs, equipment and Adaptive Technology.
The students are also supported by many Specialist staff. An Occupational Therapist, Orientation and Mobility Specialists, Speech and Language Pathologist as well as Teachers who specialise in other disabilities such as Autistic Spectrum Disorder, make regular visits, and consult with staff.
